Day 1
A full day of driving, with stops for rest & lunch, will bring us to our harbor-front accommodations at the Boothbay Harbor Inn. Dinner will be included at a local restaurant.
DDay 2
Following breakfast at the inn, we will visit the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens where we will see glorious formal gardens, impressive stonework, man-made waterfalls and ponds, and an overall design that's both appealing and impressive. After lunch on our own in downtown Boothbay Harbor, we will depart for Bar Harbor. Enroute we'll make a stop at the Maine State Prison Showroom. Here you will be given the opportunity to browse and purchase wood products and crafts made by actual inmates. Our next stop is Camden Hills State Park where we take the short road up Mount Battie for incredible views of Penobscot Bay. This evening we will check-in to our hotel for a 3-night stay followed by dinner at a local restaurant.
B, DDay 3
After breakfast we will enjoy a 3-hour Puffin Lighthouse Cruise where you can relax & enjoy the beautiful views. Following lunch on our own in Bar Harbor we will be met by a local step-on guide who will point out all the highlights of Mount Desert Island's Acadia National Park. The glacier-carved island is a phenomenal geological grab bag of mountains, lakes, cliffs, forests, beaches, and rugged shoreline on the U.S. Atlantic Coast. Included in our tour will be some of the most popular sites including Thunder Hole, Jordan Pond, and Cadillac Mountain. Dinner this evening will be included at a local restaurant.
B, DDay 4
After breakfast, we will witness the whales of the Gulf of Maine! This trip is sure to be an experience to remember as we head offshore in search of large baleen whales such as the humpback, finback, and minke as well as other fascinating marine life. Enjoy a ride out into the open ocean while on the lookout for porpoise, dolphins, seals, sharks, ocean sunfish and offshore seabirds. While heading out in search of whales, our guide will educate us on the natural and cultural history of the Gulf of Maine! This evening, we will enjoy a lobster-bake with all the fixins!
B, DDay 5
This morning, after breakfast, we must check-out and begin our homeward journey. Our first stop today is Owls Head Transportation Museum for a self-guided tour of a collection of antique, yet still working, modes of transportation - carriages, bicycles, autos, and airplanes. As we travel south along the coast, we will stop for lunch on our own before arriving in Bath, ME to visit the Maine Maritime Museum, which focuses on Maine's seafaring history on the banks of the Kennebec River. We'll then travel to South Portland, ME, the location of our lodging this evening. Dinner is at our leisure.
Day 6
After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for home. With stops for meals and rest, arrival home is scheduled for later this evening.
