Bube's Brewery with Beer Tasting

Touring Bube's, especially the catacombs, requires the ability to navigate tight spaces, steep/uneven stairwells, etc. The use of walkers, rollators, wheelchairs, and canes is not possible when touring Bube's facility. This information should be taken into consideration before making reservations on this tour.

Day 1

Bube's Brewery as it stands today is the result of Alois Bube's life's work. He expanded his small brewery several times and built a Victorian hotel to save his beer, accommodate overnight guests and offer dining to travelers passing through Mount Joy, PA. By the turn of the century, he had a very successful business and his reputation as a good brewer and decent businessman had spread far and wide.

Mr. Bube died suddenly in 1908 at the age of 57. He had built up enough wealth that, although his brewery closed just prior to Prohibition in 1920, members of his family were able to live there until the 1960s. During that time, they changed nothing and did little with the buildings. Regional breweries like this one were common in the late 1800s, but Bube's is one of the only "lager era" brewery in the U.S. that still stands today in almost completely intact condition. Restoration of the complex began in 1968 and continues currently.

Today's lunch at Bube's Brewery is hosted at the Alois Restaurant in the original tavern/hotel building that is part of Bube's historic brewery complex. The Microbrewery at Bube's Brewery is located within the original brewery's icehouse. The mash/lauter tun and kettle have a 3.5 bbl capacity (approximately 110 gallons.) The brewers usually brew two consecutive batches to meet the capacity of the 10 bbl fermenters. The brewery has two 10 bbl fermenters and one 10 bbl conditioning tank for lager beer. The selection of Bube's handcrafted beers on draft changes frequently. Here's your chance to sample some of them!

Motorcoach seating is assigned at the time of reservation but can not be guaranteed. Although we do our best to keep each traveler in the seat assigned at the time of reservation, there are times that it is necessary to move seat locations. Please be sure to verify your final seat number(s) with the driver at the time of boarding.
