Chinese Lantern Festival in Philadelphia

Day 1

The Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square returns to Philadelphia's Historic District with handcrafted lanterns that illuminate when the sun sets. It's truly a sight to see!

Most of the materials used to make the displays were shipped to the United States directly from China and assembled in Franklin Square by a team of 30 Chinese artisans over the course of one month. A centerpiece of the festival is a magnificient 200-foot-long phoenix. This glowing mythical creature stands at 21 feet tall and weighs 6,000 pounds. Another showstopping lantern display depicting mythological creatures called 'kylin' is made of more than 30,000 clear jars filled with colored water and lights.

In addition to the stunning lantern displays, you will enjoy daily performances, culinary exploration, crafts by working artists, and still be able to play (at an extra cost) Philly-themed mini-golf, ride the Parx Liberty Carousel, or enjoy Center City's premier play place during the duration of the festival.
