Day 1

With stops for rest and lunch en route, arrival in Richmond is scheduled for mid-afternoon. Upon arrival we will tour Maymont for the Victorian Holiday House Tour. This estate of a Gilded-Age capitalist is all decked out for the Holidays in splendid style. See how the "other half" lived and celebrated Christmas during that glorious time. It's almost like being at Downtown Abbey. After checking-in to our hotel we will enjoy dinner at Capital Ale House. "Cap Ale" is one of Richmond's favorite dining spots for good reason. The food and atmosphere are great, and there are literally hundreds of beers on tap or in stock. What's not to love? We will then tour Gardenfest of Lights at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden shines for Christmas with more than a million twinkling points of light. We'll have an evening stroll through the Conservatory and across the rolling landscape spectacularly illuminated for the Holidays.

Day 2

This morning, after breakfast at the hotel, we will be met by a step-on guide who will show us the highlights of Richmond. Included in our tour will be a visit to the Virginia State Capitol. After lunch on your own, we will tour Tuckahoe Plantation, Thomas Jefferson's boyhood home which dates to 1733 and is among the finest early 18th century plantation homes. Our guided tour will include the small one-room schoolhouse where Jefferson received his first education. The house will be decorated for the Holidays in the fashion a young Jefferson would have known. This evening we will enjoy dinner at Hanover Tavern, followed by a Holiday Performance by Virginia Repertory Theatre.

Day 3

After an included breakfast at the hotel, we will tour the Wilton House. The stunning Georgian colonial plantation home (circa 1753) was used by Lafayette as his headquarters during the American Revolution and George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are among the famous visitors here. Wilton will be decorated for the Holidays and their superb collection of early American decorative arts are a must-see. Lunch will be on your own in Carytown. This mile-long stretch of Cary Street is Richmond's funky and fun shopping and dining destination. For lunch you can choose from everything between French cuisines to great burgers, then walk off your lunch and discover the one-of-a-kind gifts that you will find along this "Mile of Style" experience. Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes as walking is a part of the fun. After lunch, and some free time, we will depart for home. Arrival is scheduled for later this evening.
