Day 1

This morning we depart for Virginia. With stops for rest & lunch, we will arrive to our first attraction, Scotchtown. Scotchtown is the only original standing home of Patrick Henry, orator of the American Revolution and first elected governor of Virginia. Patrick Henry lived at Scotchtown from 1771 to 1778. It is from here that he rode to Richmond's St. John's Church
to give his famous "Liberty or Death" speech, which would become a rallying cry to our country's independence! After a guided tour of this Colonial-era house, we will have dinner and entertainment at a local restaurant. Our lodging for the next three evenings will be in Glen Allen, VA.

Day 2

After breakfast at the hotel, we will start our day with a guided tour of Tuckahoe Plantation, the 1733 plantation where Thomas Jefferson grew up. We will tour the home and one-room schoolhouse where Jefferson received his early education. Afterward, we will travel to Carytown for shopping and lunch on our own. This afternoon we will tour St. John's Church. The
tour, led by an interpreter inside the church, tells the story of the Convention, the events in Virginia that led up to it, and explains in more detail why Virginia and the "Liberty or Death" speech was pivotal for the Revolution. This evening we will have dinner followed by entertainment.

Day 3

We will start our day with a visit to Henricus Historical Park, the recreation of the second successful English settlement in the New World and where Pocahontas met and married John Rolfe. This stunning attraction is located on a bluff overlooking the James River. After lunch on own will have a guided tour of the Capitol, one of America's most historic buildings. Designed by Thomas Jefferson and opened in 1788, the Capitol is where the Aaron Burr trial was held and where the Bill of Rights was ratified. After a guided driving city tour of Richmond we will have a guided tour of the Wilton House Museum, the 1733 plantation home which served as Lafayette's headquarters. It holds a fine collection of early American decorative arts. Dinner this evening will be included at a local restaurant.
