Pennsylvania Grand Canyon

Often referred to as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania and the Pine Creek Gorge, the PA Canyon area stretches for over 45 miles with depths of nearly 1500 feet. Its dynamic topography creates many scenic wonders, including steep canyon walls and waterfalls. The PA Grand Canyon is part of the Tioga State Forest, beginning just south of Ansonia, PA, near Wellsboro. We will have many opportunities to see the spectacular beauty of this region by riverboat and covered wagon.

Day 1

With an early morning departure, we will arrive in Williamsport for a Susquehanna River Cruise aboard the Hiawatha Riverboat. Lunch will be on your own in Williamsport before departing for Wellsboro. We will have free time in downtown Wellsboro before a guided covered wagon ride into the PA Grand Canyon. Our guide will entertain us with local history and point out wildlife while we view the beautiful fall foliage. Dinner will be included at the Historic Penn Wells Hotel before checking-in to the Penn Wells Lodge. From here, the rest of the evening is yours to relax.

Please Note:

Some rooms at Penn Wells Lodge are not accessible by elevator, make sure to let a reservationist know if first floor accommodations are required. Also, wheelchairs and walkers cannot be accommodated on the PA Grand Canyon wagon ride.

Day 2

After breakfast at Penn Wells Lodge, we will go to Arcadia Theatre to privately view a brief documentary on Wellsboro history, including the Historic Penn Wells Hotel as well as Wellsboro Glass and Christmas Ornament history. From there we will depart with our guide for the PA Grand Canyon Overlook and Visitor Center. Here we will have great views of this natural wonder and view a video at the Visitor Center. We will then travel to Corning, NY for lunch, shopping, and a self-guided tour of the Corning Museum of Glass. This museum features the most comprehensive collection of glass artifacts anywhere, and live Hot Glass Demonstrations from some of the best glassmakers around. We will then return to the Lodge for free time before our included chef demonstration dinner.

Day 3

Following breakfast, we will check-out and depart for the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum. Upon arrival we will have a guided tour of the Visitor Center and outdoor exhibits including a re-created lumber camp, operable circular sawmill and birch still, Eastern Loggers model railroad, and more. We will then depart for home, with stops for rest and lunch, arrival home will be early evening.

Please dress appropriately for the season; we suggest layers. Many attractions we will visit are held rain or shine.

Our intention is to run each tour as originally planned and published. However, if deemed necessary to do so, Perkiomen Tours reserves the right to make changes to tour components, schedules or itineraries without prior notification.

Tips for Perkiomen motorcoach drivers and tour escorts are not included in the price of this tour. We feel that these gratuities should be extended on an individual basis and dictated by the level of service provided.

Motorcoach seating is assigned at the time of reservation but cannot be guaranteed. Although we do our best to keep each traveler in the seat assigned at the time of reservation, there are times that it is necessary to move seat locations. Please be sure to verify your final seat number(s) with your driver at the time of boarding. Historically, daily seat rotation was practiced on most multi-day tours. We have suspended this practice for a period of time. Seat rotation will be explained by your driver or tour escort if reinstated.

To fully participate in this tour may require extended amounts of walking. There may be steps, inclines, uneven surfaces or extended periods of standing. Participants with physical limitation should take this into consideration.
