Canada's Northeastern Ontario is blessed with a depth of cultural vibrancy, from the traditions of the Indigenous Anishinaabe and Mushkegowuk, to those of the people who arrived later from the four corners of the Earth. This tour takes you to a sparsely populated land of forests, tranquil lakes and muskeg.
When Europeans were looking for a way to reach the riches to the north and west, it was this intricate network of lakes, rivers and pathways they paddled and portaged to the shores of Lakes Huron & Superior and James Bay and beyond. They looked into the very face of nature and learned from indigenous people to become one with it. You can do the same today. You can embrace nature and travel along some of the same lakes and rivers to see the incredible countryside the way the Voyageurs saw it and how the Anishinaabe and Mushkegowuk have seen it since the beginning of time. As beautiful as the land, the waters and the sky of Northeastern Ontario are, it could very well be the people you meet, the friendships you make and the cultures you encounter that create the most lasting memories.

After breakfast at the hotel we depart for Cedar Meadows Resort located in Timmons, Ontario. Here we will enjoy a northern wildlife journey where we can interact with friendly bison, deer and elk on a spectacular wildlife reserve located along the banks of the mighty Mattagami River. Our guided journey through this amazing animal habitat takes place on a tractor-drawn wagon while local biology experts share their vast knowledge of the area's wildlife, history, and ecology. Lunch will be included at the resort before departing for Cochrane, the location of our lodging for this evening. Cochrane is the southern shipping port of all freight and passengers headed for the Arctic Circle.CB, L
Rise early and "All Aboard" the Polar Bear Express for our trek into James and Hudson Bay Territories. There are no roads to this northern region, only rail and plane can access Moosonee. Located on the edge of the Arctic, getting to Moosonee and Moose Factory is half the fun. Riding the train presents a rare opportunity to photograph some of Northern Ontario's most pristine wilderness. This evening we will enjoy a traditional meal at the Cree Cultural Interpretive Centre consisting of goose, moose fry, fish, bannock, and side dishes.CB, L, D
Packing a smaller overnight bag for this night will allow you to leave your larger suitcase on the motorcoach.
Since time immemorial the Cree People of the Moose River have been welcoming visitors. Since their first contact with European explorers in 1673, the Moose Cree First Nation People have hosted many people from many walks of life from around the globe. The Cree time-honored traditions have been shared with visitors by showcasing their hospitality. Today we will be shuttled, by little motorboats, to Moose Factory to visit all the historical sites on Moose Factory Island. After lunch on our own, we will set out for a boat tour of the Moose River to the waters of the James Bay. Upon completion of the boat tour, we will be dropped off in Moosonee for our train ride back to Cochrane. Arrival at the hotel will be late this evening.CB, D
After breakfast we will depart for the Polar Bear Habitat and Heritage Village. Here, we'll see Polar Bears in their natural habitat. Inukshuk, Ganuk, and Henry thrive on 7 hectares of pristine, natural environment that features the world's largest enclosed lake. Our lodging this evening will be in North Bay.CB

This morning we will travel to the observation deck of the giant CN Tower, considered to be the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere. This signature icon to Toronto's skyline was declared one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1995. Our lodging this evening is in Mount Morris, New York.CB
This morning we will visit the Corning Museum of Glass in the heart of the lovely Finger Lakes region. Arrival home is scheduled for late afternoon.CB
This tour includes an area of Ontario that is relatively undeveloped. While the motels we use are clean and safe, they may not provide all the amenities that would be expected at our usual first class properties. In addition, "Polar Bear Express" is the name of the train providing service between Cochrane and Moosonee.
