Railroaders Delight - Chattanooga

Day 1

Today we depart on our southern journey. Enroute we will stop for rest, lunch, and a train ride aboard the Blue Ridge Flyer. During our three-hour, round-trip ride, we will see the communities of Staunton, Fishersville, and Waynesboro, VA before ascending roughly 1,000 feet up to the Blue Ridge Tunnel. The train will turn around in Ivy and return to the depot. Tonight's dinner will be included on the train. We will then check-in to our accommodations for the night in Wytheville, VA.

Day 2

After breakfast, we will check-out and depart for Chattanooga, TN. With stops for lunch and rest, arrival is planned for early afternoon. We will then check-in to the beautiful historic Read House Hotel. Dinner will be on your own this evening.

Day 3

Following breakfast, we will depart for Lookout Mountain Incline Railway where we will take a ride on a 125 year old funicular railway. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenic views of the Tennessee mountains and valleys from the observation windows on the train as well as panoramic views from the observation tower. Next, we will depart for Ruby Falls for a guided tour of the tallest and deepest underground waterfall that is open to the public in the US. Lunch will be on your own today. This afternoon we will visit Rock City Gardens for a self-guided tour. Explore the gardens with over 400 native plant species, massive rock formations, and the breathtaking "See Seven States" panoramic views. Afterwards we will take a ride on a narrated boat tour abord the authentic WWII Duck Boat. Once immersed in the Tennessee River, we will enjoy spectacular views of downtown Chattanooga and the waterfront. After our Duck Boat ride, we will depart for dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 4

This morning, after breakfast, we will travel to Georgia to the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad for a four-hour, round-trip train ride along the Toccoa River. Explore the charming Appalachian foothills of North Georgia as our car host gives us the historic background of the small towns we are passing through. We will have a 2-hour layover in the small southern sister towns of McCaysville, GA and Copperhill, TN. Explore the many local shops and restaurants before boarding the train back to the depot in Blue Ridge, GA. This evening, we will have dinner at Mayor's Mansion Inn before a sunset cruise aboard the Southern Belle Riverboat.

Day 5

Following breakfast we will check-out and depart for Chattanooga Choo-Choo and Glen Miller Gardens. Chattanooga Choo- Choo is a former railroad station once owned and operated by the Southern Railway, today it is the home of The Hotel Chalet. Explore the beautiful 1974 building and Glen Miller Gardens at your own pace. Lunch will be on your own today enroute to our overnight accommodations in Wytheville, VA. Dinner will be on your own.

Day 6

After breakfast, we will depart for home. With rest and lunch stops enroute, our arrival home is scheduled for early evening.

Please be sure to verify your final seat number(s) with your driver at the time of boarding. Historically, daily seat rotation was practiced on most multi-day tours. We have suspended this practice for a period of time. Seat rotation will be explained by your driver or tour escort if reinstated.
