Today we will travel by Perkiomen motorcoach to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the location of this evening's lodging. Here, the American Duchess representative will be available to answer questions and reserve Premium shore excursions.
Located at the junction of three rivers, Pittsburgh is the largest inland port in the United States. At one time a trading camp, it grew into a major manufacturing center and also served as the jumping off point for the golden age of steamboat travel. Its Gilded Age sites, including the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, speak to its history as an early 20th-century industrial capital. Today after breakfast, you can enjoy a Premium shore excursion or relax at your leisure, prior to boarding the American Duchess. Welcome to your home aboard the American Duchess, where you can relax in a lavish atmosphere brimming with the finest amenities. Premium linens and plush bedding will ensure you are well-rested to fully enjoy each included shore excursion, historical lecture and nightly entertainment. Today we visit Wheeling, West Virginia, which was established as a town in 1795. In the late 19th century, the town served as a prime industrial center for the state with thriving factory business in iron, steel, glass and tobacco. Walk across the 150-year-old Wheeling Suspension Bridge and gaze at the graceful waters of the Ohio River or take a walk through the Victorian Old Town and visit breathtaking homes from the stylish Victorian Era. Marietta's location on two major navigable rivers made it ripe for industry and commerce in the 19th century, with boat building emerging as one of its earliest. Oil booms in 1875 and 1910 made investors rich and led to the construction of lavish houses, many of which still stand today. B, L, D
Huntington is part of the largest inland port in the United States where West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky meet. Steamboats have always been a huge aspect of Huntington's history as a major port for lumber, coal and fuel during the railroad extension. Today, Huntington invites all to explore the unique shops, restaurants, museums and historical buildings. Today an optional Premium Excursion "A Day at the Museums" is available for an additional cost. B, L, D
Today we will visit Augusta, Kentucky, regarded as one of the most popular shipping ports during the agricultural growth era. Tobacco, hemp, livestock and wine were frequently exported from Augusta to surrounding areas. Today, the city continues to grow and welcome visitors of all ages. B, L, D
Amidst the gently rolling hills along the Ohio River lies Cincinnati. The community was the location of Fort Washington, which provided military protection for the surrounding territories. Today an optional Premium Excursion to the ARK Encounter is available for an additional cost. B, L, D
Today we visit Madison, Indiana, a quaint river town sure to win your heart! Madison's culture and heritage is weaved into nearly every stop, ensuring guests will get a glimpse of the beauty and history of antique machinery at the Schroeder House, or an example of fine craftsmanship at the Lanier mansion State Historic Site, where the stunning Greek Revival architecture is sure to impress. Today an optional Premium Excursion - A Kentucky Champion's Experience is available for an additional cost. B, L, D
Louisville is the largest city in Kentucky and in the top 30 most populated cities in the United States. The large city brings with it an authentic culture and diversity that visitors quickly learn to love. After we disembark we will tour Louisville's highlights before continuing onto our lodging in Grove City, OH. B
Today we complete our homeward journey arriving back in Pennsburg by early evening. B
Our intention is to run each tour as originally planned and published. However, if deemed necessary to do so, Perkiomen Tours reserves the right to make changes to tour components, schedules or itineraries without prior notification.
Tips for Perkiomen motorcoach drivers and tour escorts are not included in the price of this tour. We feel that these gratuities should be extended on an individual basis and dictated by the level of service provided.
Motorcoach seating is assigned at the time of reservation but can not be guaranteed. Although we do our best to keep each traveler in the seat assigned at the time of reservation, there are times that it is necessary to move seat locations. Please be sure to verify your final seat number(s) with the driver at the time of boarding. Daily seat rotation is practiced on most multi-day tours. Seat rotation will be explained by your driver or tour escort.

A deposit of $500.00 per person is due at time of booking in order to confirm a seat on this tour.
Final payment is due April 12, 2019.
