Scenic Route 6 & Erie, PA

Day 1

Today we start on our Route 6 journey traveling to Lackawanna County, where we can discover the remnants of the area's critical role in transportation history. Transportation heritage landmarks here and across the corridor transport you to a time when life may have been slower but was no less exciting. Our first stop is a self-guided visit at Steamtown National Historic Site. Immerse yourself in railroad history at this preserved rail yard and steam-era complex with a working roundhouse, repair shops, and various museums. After lunch on our own, we will enjoy a self-guided visit to the Electric City Trolley Station & Museum, which provides a highly representative picture of the electric railway history in eastern Pennsylvania, from the Philadelphia region to Northeast Pennsylvania. This afternoon, we will travel west on Route 6 to Wellsboro where we will check-in to our lodging and enjoy an included dinner.

Day 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, we will be met by a guide who will point out the highlights, including the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, as we drive around Wellsboro. After lunch on our own in Wellsboro, we continue west on Route 6 entering "God's Country" of Potter County. We will stop in Coudersport for a guided tour of the Eliot Ness Museum, celebrating the career of Eliot Ness. Enjoy antique cars, trucks, and exhibits that capture the historic allure surrounding Eliot Ness. Learn about Eliot Ness's life and adventures and how the story of The Untouchables came to life while he lived in Coudersport. We then continue west into the unspoiled Allegheny National Forest. Our lodging this evening will be in Bradford, where we will enjoy an included dinner at Beefeaters, located at the Historic Carnegie Library.

Day 3

This morning, after breakfast at the hotel, we will visit Kinzua Bridge State Park, where a park ranger will show us the highlights during this walking tour. A scenic view overlooks the fallen bridge and Kinzua Creek Valley and is a prime location to view the fall foliage. Continuing west, we will arrive in Erie, the location of our lodging for the next two nights, by mid-afternoon. A lunch stop will be made enroute. This afternoon we will have a tour at Hagen History Center, formerly known as the Erie County Historical Society, focusing on the history of Erie County for the past 200 years. Later we will check-in to our hotel and enjoy an included dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 4

After breakfast at the hotel we will visit the Tom Ridge Environmental Center, followed by a tour of Presque Isle State Park. The Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC) is an educational center dedicated to teaching visitors about the unique 3,200 acres of Presque Isle and the many different forms of life that inhabit the peninsula. It also serves as a center for research, contributing to the conservation efforts and promoting environmental awareness, helping to preserve the unparalleled beauty of Presque Isle, and Pennsylvania's only seashore. After our guided tour, we will enjoy a luncheon cruise on Presque Isle Bay. Later this afternoon, we visit Mazza Vineyards and Arrowhead Wine Cellars. Dinner this evening will be at our leisure, near the hotel.

Day 5

This morning after breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for home. Enroute, we'll stop at Drake Well Museum, which tells the story of the petroleum industry's birth in Pennsylvania and its growth into the global enterprise it is today. We'll continue our journey home with stops for rest and lunch enroute. Arrival home is scheduled for early evening.
