Be Aware

The Kitzhof Inn no longer has a pool. In its place, there is now an outdoor pavilion.

Day 2

This morning, after breakfast, we will depart with a local guide for a day of touring. First, we will visit the Bennington Museum. We will begin with a meet and greet before exploring southern Vermont's largest repository of art, history, and innovation. View a diverse collection reflecting the history of early Vermont and historically associated areas of New York and Massachusetts through present day. Among the objects on permanent view is a 1924 Martin Wasp touring car, one of 20 made in Vermont by Karl Martin. The museum holds the largest public collection in the world of paintings by Grandma Moses - the great 20th-century folk artist who painted scenes of rural life embodying a sense of an idyllic bygone America. Anna Mary Robertson "Grandma" Moses (1860-1961) started painting in her seventies and within years was one of America's most famous artists. Next, we will visit the Norman Rockwell Exhibition at the Sugar Shack. Browse at your own pace the collection of Rockwell's paintings of everyday people and everyday situations from 1939-1953, the years he lived in Arlington, VT. You will also have time to browse and shop at the Sugar Shack. A picnic boxed lunch will be included today. This afternoon, immerse yourself in the wonderful world of chocolate at the Chocolatorium! A talk and video will introduce you to the history and culture of chocolate, where it comes from, and how it is made with a live demonstration included. Shop in the chocolate shop and next door at the Village Peddler if you wish. Later, we will return to the inn to enjoy its amenities and end the night with an included dinner and entertainment.

Day 3

We will enjoy breakfast at the inn, then meet our guide for another day of touring. First, we will visit Hildene - The Lincoln Family Home. We will have a self-guided tour of the 24-room Georgian Manor and formal gardens. Learn how the Lincoln's vacationed in Vermont and some of their family misfortunes. Visit the fully restored Pullman Car and Agricultural Center where they make their goat cheese. Included will be a picnic box lunch. This afternoon we will visit Big Picture Farm, a small hillside goat dairy farmstead and creamery. While here, we will learn about the history and mission of the farm and have time to shop in their store for some award-winning goat milk caramels and farmstead cheeses. Afterwards, we will visit the Estey Organ Museum, one of the largest makers of reed organs, pump organs, melodeons, and pipe organs in the 1800s and 1900s. We will tour the museum and the "villages" to see where the factory workers lived since most of them moved from Europe to work at Estey. After a short stop at Harris Hill Ski Jump to see the Olympic size 90-meter Ski Jump hill and its beautiful surroundings, we will return to the inn to enjoy our last night in Vermont. Dinner and entertainment will be included this evening.
