Day 1

We will arrive in Harrisonburg, Virginia at the Shenandoah Heritage Market and Farmer's Cafe' for lunch and shopping on your own, followed by a conservator-led tour of the Virginia Quilt Museum in the Shenandoah Valley. We will then check-in to our accommodations, nestled in the mountains, for the next two nights.

Day 2

Our day starts with a hearty breakfast, with hot and cold options. Then we'll head towards Lexington, one of the best small towns you'll ever visit! We will experience a carriage tour through the historic downtown area that will reveal antebellum homes, historic churches, and a thriving downtown filled with boutique shops and a variety of restaurants to suit any taste. Lunch and shopping is on your own, followed by a cadet-led tour of the Virginia Military Institute, then a visit to the historic VMI chapel and museum. For dinner, we'll enjoy regional fare before returning to our hotel for the night.

Day 3

After breakfast, we will check-out and head south along the beautiful and scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, stopping at one of the many overlooks for some photo ops! We'll visit a local orchard where you'll have the opportunity to pick up some apples to take home, or shop for other locally-made items like jams and jellies, syrups, candies, baked goods, and souvenirs. After lunch at a local restaurant, we'll visit the Bedford Boys Tribute Center and the D-Day Memorial for a guided tour. This stirring memorial covers 88 acres and honors all Allied Soldiers who participated in the Normandy invasion. After checking-in to our hotel in Lynchburg, we will have dinner at a local restaurant downtown, followed by a candlelight tour of the Historic Sandusky House, which was the centerpiece of the Battle of Lynchburg.

Day 4

This morning, after breakfast at our hotel, we check-out and take a tour of downtown Lynchburg with a local guide. Then we will head to the Walton's Mountain Museum. Those who are fans of the classic television show, The Walton's, will recognize the name "Walton's Mountain." Though no such place exists, this is as close as we can come because Earl Hamner, creator of the show, grew up here and based his work on his childhood on this mountain. It is filled with re-creations of sets from the show as well as props and costumes. We will then enjoy lunch on our own in Charlottesville before our arrival home scheduled for this evening.
