West Virginia Mountain Splendor

Day 1

Built on coal, West Virginia today looks to its abundant natural beauty and recreational attractions to provide for its economic future. A composite of old and new, West Virginia features high wooded mountains, deep valleys and broad, rolling plateaus. This morning we depart for this beautiful scenic wonderland. Following stops for rest and lunch on our own, we will arrive at Blackwater Falls State Park where we will take a short walk to the falls and make a visit to the trading post. Afterwards, we will head to Elkins, WV where we will check-in to our lodging for this evening. Dinner will be included followed by local entertainment.

Day 2

Today we meet our tour guide for a day of local touring. We will visit Green Bank Telescope, where we will see the world's largest, fully steerable radio telescope. Lunch will be provided on site after the tour. Next we will travel to Cass Scenic Railroad State Park where you can enjoy free time to explore the company store, gift shop, and visitor center. Nestled in the mountains, Cass Scenic Railroad State Park offers excursions that transport you back in time to relive an era when steam-driven locomotives were an essential part of everyday life. Our visit includes an afternoon ride to Whittaker Station. We will then depart for Lewisburg, WV, the location of our lodging for the next two evenings. Dinner and the evening will be at your leisure.

Day 3

This morning we depart on another day of touring with our guide. Today's touring will include the Pearl S. Buck Birthplace, Droop Mountain Battlefield, an included lunch and Cranberry Glades Botanical Area. Pearl S. Buck Birthplace is the first home of the Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winning author. At Droop Mountain Battlefield we will have an informative tour of the park, get some Civil War history of the area, and enjoy a breathtaking view from the top of the mountain. Later we will visit Cranberry Glades Botanical Area. Dinner and the evening will be at your leisure.

Day 4

After breakfast at the hotel, we depart for home. With stops for rest and lunch, we will arrive home by early evening.

Motorcoach seating is assigned at the time of reservation but can not be guaranteed. Although we do our best to keep each traveler in the seat assigned at the time of reservation, there are times that it is necessary to move seat locations. Please be sure to verify your final seat number(s) with the driver at the time of boarding. Daily seat rotation is practiced on most multi-day tours. Seat rotation will be explained by your driver or tour escort.
